Love Lavender

Lavender season has now sadly ended, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy it! For years I’ve been seeing the iconic photo of a red phone booth in a sea of lavender at Mayfield Lavender Farm in London, and I’ve been dying to go. This year I finally made it!

It takes about an hour to get to the farm via train and bus from London Bridge station, and the bus stop is right next to the farm, so if you follow Google Maps, you really cant get lost. According to the farm’s website, instagram, and employees working there, the farm gets VERY crowded on the weekends and in the late afternoon, so go when it opens (or as close to it as possible. I got there about an hour after it opened and it was still pretty crowded when I left a little after noon.

I won’t lie, I am NOT a fan of lavender scented things, so I was a little worried about this giant field full of lavender, but the farm actually doesn’t smell much at all. The shop does, but they have all kinds of soaps, candles, dried lavender, pretty much any lavender products you can imagine. This is not a pick your own lavender farm, so if that was your goal, you’ll have to check out some of the others around England.

That’s about all the info you need to know about this place, now I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Oh, and one other thing. If you’re going to take kids, maybe don’t let them climb the phone booth or let them stick their head through it. One kid got their head stuck. I laughed at them and I’m not sorry.

There’a also a little wild flower section.

One side of the farm had not bloomed as much, but that meant less people were over there, so naturally that’s where I went with my tripod.

Then it was back to the crowded side to continue my quest for photos without too many people in them.

The Instagram vs. Reality comparison is intense in this place. It took a lot of waiting and a lot of weird angles to get the phone booth without people in front of it. Here is the reality…

Mayfield Lavender Farm is definitely worth the trip… if you can handle waiting for people to get out of your way. If I can do it, you can, trust me.

Hopefully this didn’t put you to sleep like lavender does! See ya.
