Durdle Door

For what seems like years I had been threatening to go to the Jurassic Coast in England. The beaches and cliffs along the coast just look to die for and I was dying to go. I kept looking into it, then hesitating, but finally one day I just said I’M DOING IT!

I took a train from London to Wool and from Wool station hopped on a bus to Lulworth Cove (you can pay right on the bus with cash or card). Lulworth Cove was a nice little spot, but not the main event that I went for.

I looked at the map and it said about a 40 minute walk to what I really came for, Durdle Door. I thought, piece of cake! I’ll just stroll on over. GOOD ONE, HEATHER. The beginning of the walk was straight up a hill. I was dying. Drenched in sweat, huffing and puffing, it’s shocking I didn’t find a husband on that walk, really. I took MANY breaks on this hill and pretended I was just enjoying the view or taking photos… like this one.

I finally got to the top and to some even ground, but still couldn’t see what I was looking for. Turns out, Durdle Door is down one huge hill, then down more steps, all of which you have to walk back up when you’re done. At the time, that was future Heather’s problem, so down I went.

This view was worth ALL the sweat (and at least I got my steps in that day). Look at this place.

I took in the view, caught my breath, and hung out with some butterflies on the path along the cliffs and above the beach before going down and sitting on the beach for a while.

Then I made my way down to the beach to drop some weight in my backpack by enjoying the rosé and snacks I carried around all day. FYI – the water looks beautiful and so many people are swimming in it. Those people are insane. I tried to get in thinking it would be nice and refreshing, it was SO COLD. I don’t know why I expected anything else from a beach in England. My feet enjoyed it, the rest of my body did not.

After some laziness on the beach, I packed up and gave myself a pep talk to be able to walk back up the hill. I conquered the stairs, then took a little break to enjoy the view of Man O’War Beach, which is next to Durdle Door.

Then I walked back up the hill, bought two bottles of water and a slushy from the little drink stand, and made my way to the bus stop. The same bus I took to Lulworth Cove stops at the Durdle Door park entrance and goes back to Wool Station. There was no way I was doing any more walking that day.

In conclusion, England’s coast and beaches are beautiful and you should go.

Seriously, go there. Glad we had this talk. mmbyyeee.
