You may recall from Stonehenge Sunrise that I told you’d tell you about Salisbury later. Well I’m no liar, so here we are.
When I went to Stonehenge to capture those glorious sunrise pictures, I also hit up Salisbury and Bath in the same outing. I took the train from London to Salisbury and wandered around the town a bit. My main motivation for stopping through here was the cathedral. Salisbury Cathedral has Britain’s tallest church spire, and a copy of the Magna Carta, so yeah, they’re not messing around. I mean look at this beauty.

Oh and the cloisters – giving Hogwarts a run for its money. When I arrived in the afternoon on the first day, the inside of the cathedral was already closed, but the cloisters were still open and fairly empty, so I got to really soak it up (aka just stood there waiting for wizard children to run to class).

Once I had my fill of pretending I was at Hogwarts, I explored the town a bit more, then hopped in a taxi to my hotel, where I would proceed to stay up all night watching the new episode of Game of Thrones and sleep only 30 minutes before my Stonehenge tour, but thats not important. Here’s some cute spots (and some wisteria!) around town.

CUTE, right?
Okay, so skip to the next day, post sunrise tour. I was already up and in desperate need of food, so I headed back in to town. Somehow I managed to go to the cathedral to see the inside when it first opened (at 9:00? maybe 9:30? Somewhere around there) BEFORE getting food. I know, who am I??
Well I’m here to tell you they did not decide skimp on the inside.

From there I immediately found food and coffee to sustain life, and hopped on a train to Bath. Now I know I SAID that staying up all night for Game of Thrones wasn’t important, but it was. Ya girl was TIRED! I got to Bath and thats when it hit me that it was, in fact, a bank holiday in the UK. Salisbury was so peaceful and hardly anyone was out and about, and I wondered where everyone was. I found all those people I wondered about plus a bajillion others in Bath. Luckily I have already been to Bath a couple times, so I wasn’t trying to do the main attractions like the Roman Baths, because it was buck wild up in there. I wandered a bit, then the tired took over and I gave up. I got on a train about 5 hours earlier than I originally planned. I regret nothing, I took a fat nap on that train.
Here’s what I did see in the short time I was there though.

Now what did we learn? Let’s recap. DO go to Salisbury and Bath. DON’T go to Bath on a bank holiday. DON’T stay up all night watching Game of Thrones when there’s exploring to be done. DO always take naps on trains.
That’s all.
