A couple weeks ago, I finally made it to Prague, a beautiful city full of cobbled streets and sidewalks. Normally I would be telling you this detail about the streets because of how cool they look, but that is not the point of this detail today. You may remember from my post about Norway, that I rolled my ankle while exploring Tromso. Then a week after that, I rolled it again in London, then I went to Prague and started the battle with the cobbled streets. You’re probably like, ‘Girl, we don’t care about your ankle!’ but this is just to say that I did NOT make it anywhere at my normal pace and probably missed a few things in the city.
Now that we got medical issues out of the way… let’s talk about the rest of the city! Due to the fact that I had free nights at a Marriott to use, I stayed a bit outside of the main tourist areas at Courtyard Prague City , but this was a good location. The hotel was right next to a shopping center with a metro station in it, and the Marriott provided me with two metro tickets to get me started.
After I got settled in, I looked up the tours at the Staropamen brewery and slowly made my way over. This was about a 45 minute walk from my hotel, but I had extra time and wanted to see some of the city, so I went for it, and I made it just in time for the tour, complete with 4 beer tastings.
After the brewery tour I continued my slow wandering, but this time along the river. The views along the river are beautiful, and there’s a lot of bars and restaurants in docked boats along the way. I stopped at one for a drink, but it got crowded and there was no seats, and I was OVER standing at that point, so I noped out of there.

I called it an early night and took food back to my hotel to eat in bed and TBH, I had to watch the new episode of Killing Eve before I saw any spoilers.
Day two I decided again to walk from my hotel down to Old Town Square where I had booked lunch at Terasa U Prince, AKA the rooftop restaurant with the view of the square that you see one million Instagram pictures from.

After lunch I went down to explore the square and check out the Easter market set up here. There are SO. MANY. PEOPLE. in Old Town Square, especially around the Astronomical Clock. I got annoyed, I won’t lie. So after snapping a few pictures, I decided to get out of that immediate area and wandered the areas around it, looking for streets with less people on them.

I went from Old Town Square toward the river with the goal of seeing Charles Bridge. To that goal I now say, LOL GOOD ONE HEATHER! I thought there was a lot of people in the square, but the bridge was cray. I didn’t even try to walk out on it once I saw the people, but explored the area around it instead.

That evening, I headed over to Riegrovy Sady and watched the sunset with perfect views of the city. That was a great time, I just listened to my murder podcast and chilled, as one does.

I went back to my hotel a little bummed at how crowded things were earlier in the day, so I did some research and found a lot of people suggesting going to Charles Bridge between 6:00 and 7:00am for a good view of the sunrise, and WAY less people. I had to get up way earlier than anyone should on vacation, but it was SO worth it. This is probably the best travel advice I’ve found on the internet. I didn’t get the epic fog over the bridge so many people talked about, and I was COLD, but I still got good sunrise views, and some peace and quiet.
An added bonus to going to Charles Bridge early is that Old Town Square and the surrounding streets are also empty except for the occasional jogger, and multiple pigeons.
After having parts of the city to myself all morning, I rejoined the masses to visit Prague Castle where there were more Easter market stalls (read: brats and beer for lunch) and plenty to see. There’s a lot of different things inside the castle walls, so you can buy different levels of tickets, I opted for the one that included the cathedral, Golden Lane, and a few other things.

Over all, Prague was a beautiful city, but due to the heavy emphasis on beer drinking in the city, I think it would be a lot more fun to explore with friends, I bet you could get a really good bar crawl going.
I am happy to tell you that I survived the uneven streets with no further injuries. Here’s more pictures around the city.

mmmBye.
